There is a glimmer of light for the Wedding Events Industry. Last night (Sunday 28th February 2021), South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the COVID-19 restrictions were going to be eased, with almost immediate effect, to level 1.

This is good news for the wedding and event industry as it offers a glimmer of hope that smaller events may now take place – providing all rules concerning social distancing are adhered to. Effectively this means that up to 100 people may be hosted indoors (or 50% of capacity for smaller venues) and up to 250 people outdoors.

Fortunately the Western Cape is blessed with wonderful wedding and event venues and advantage can still be taken of the wonderful weather to host both indoor and outdoor events at this time of the year.

So did couples stop getting married? It appears that a lot of couples had decided to carry on with their wedding ceremonies, but on a far smaller scale and type – opting for simple ceremonies with only a handful of people present and opting for a cocktail instead of a full wedding reception.

As DJs, we have obviously also been badly prejudiced by the strict lockdown of the wedding and events industry. Personally I have had nearly every wedding being either postponed or cancelled during the past few months and we, as DJs, are looking forward to being able to help couples make their special day memorable.

As DJs we need to adhere to all safety protocol around the COVID-19 pandemic. We do this by making sure that our equipment is sanitised and that our setup adheres to the rules of social distancing. Also, microphones for speeches are placed on a microphone stand – not hand held – and are sanitised. Each person making a speech or toast is given their own microphone windscreen to pop onto the microphone which they discard afterwards in a box to be disposed of.
